

Mr. Marr, beloved husband of 75 years of Elizabeth (Betty) Polk Marr passed away on May 29, 2025 at the age of 94. Born in Thomasville, N. C. on April 24, 1931, he was the son of Jesse O. Marr and Ruth Blackburn Marr. He was a life long Methodist and at the time of his death, a member of Chapin Christian Community Church.
During his lifetime Raymond served his church in many positions including that of Finance Chairman, Official Board Chairman, Trustee and Lay Leader. He was a member of the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class. His career was in the life insurance business and covered 35 years with Carolina Life and after the merger of the two companies, Southland Life Insurance Company. He was a Certified Life Underwriter (CLU) and also a Chartered Financial Consultant (CHFC). Raymond began his career as an agent and at the time of his retirement was serving as Regional Vice President for Southland Life. During his lifetime he was an avid woodworker, loved to hunt and fish and loved to play golf. Raymond was a Mason and for many years and a member of the Chapin Lions Club.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Betty of Chapin, SC are one son, Raymond (Ray) L. Marr, Jr. (Sue) of Columbia, SC; daughter, Annette (Ann) Marr of Lexington, SC; two grandsons, Raymond (Lee) L. Marr, III (Jeni) of Lexington, SC, Jonathan (Jon) Edgar Marr (Emily) of Horse Shoe, NC; five great-grandchildren including Lennox and Elliott of Lexington, SC and Eleanor, Cecilia and Clara of Horse Shoe, NC.
Raymond was predeceased by five brothers, Nathan of Hampton, SC, Bill and Vernon of Thomasville, NC, Donald of Lenoir, NC and Wilfred of Dothan, AL.
