

Phil graduated from Lexington High School, Class of 1971. He played sports, but primarily football, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. He attended Presbyterian College on a partial scholarship for football and attended USC, majoring in calculus. He was employed by several construction companies and was self-employed designing various projects.
Phil met this pretty school secretary, Connie Hardee, whom he loved dearly as well as her two girls. He had six step-grandchildren. He stayed close to his high school classmates and attended reunions. He loved hunting & fishing as well as the beach with parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Phil expressed time and time again how much he loved his family during his last days!
He and Connie were very active members of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Irmo, SC. He loved his church, he and his brother Mike installed all the kitchen cabinets when the church was remodeled, and they are still there today. Phil was on Council and Connie was Secretary of Council.
He was predeceased by Connie; his dad, Robert P. Carter, Sr.; and grandparents, Granny Essie & Granddaddy Lester Sons and James & Minnie Carter of Atlanta, GA.
Surviving are his mother, Marge Carter of Lexington, SC; brothers, Mike and Mark; sister, Robin Cox (Steve); brother-in-law, Mike Hardee & family of Columbia, SC; step-daughters, Beth & Pam and families; two aunts, Ann Watkins of Lexington and Jane Carter of Junction City, KS, and many nephews & nieces who he was very close to.
Services will be held October 26, 2025 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church at 2:00 PM, with visitation after in fellowship hall. Honorary pallbearers will be Lexington High School, Class of 1971.
