

LEXINGTON - Samuel M. “Sam” Corley, 64, of Lexington, passed away Monday, May 18, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. The visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. The Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at St. David Lutheran Church with the interment to follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kidney Cancer Association, P.O. Sam was born on November 7, 1950 in Lexington to the late M.L. Corley and Cecile Sox Corley. In 1978, on November 11, he was married to Gail Poole in Lexington and together they had two children, Amanda and Samantha, who were the loves, prides and joys of his life.
Mr. Corley was the Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Co-Owner of the family owned business, M.L. Corley & Sons Sawmill, Inc. where he had been employed since 1967. He managed a variety of operational responsibilities throughout the company, including all finances since 1967. He was also the original owner of Sam’s Fine Wine and Spirits. Sam was a member of numerous affiliations including the South Carolina Forestry Association, Southern Lumber Manufacturing Association, Ducks Unlimited (Lexington Chapter), the National Wildlife Turkey Federation and was President of the South Carolina Quarter Horse Association. Sam was the Class III Director of the Congaree State Bank Board since 2007. He also served on the St. David Church Council as well as various other committees. Mr. Corley was one of a kind and was known and loved by many for having a jovial personality, a strong work ethic, and a gentle soul, all traits which became the foundations for his business and for his family.
Mr. Corley is survived by his wife of 36 years, Gail Poole Corley; his daughters, Amanda Corley Caughman and her husband, Brent Caughman; Samantha Corley; and his grandchildren Hampton, Reece and Hayden Caughman. He also leaves a brother, Dwight Corley and his wife, Nita; his sister, Patricia “Patty” Corley Grant and her husband, Kent; his sister, Janice Corley Lindler and her husband, Ronnie; mother-in-law, Barbara Poole Thomas and brother-in-law, Keith Poole and numerous nieces and nephews. Sam will be forever in our hearts and dearly missed by many.
