Shirley R Reich

HILTON HEAD - Shirley Ruth Reich was born in Detroit, Michigan, on January 2, 1931 to Mars Edmons Reedy and Mabel Ruth Reedy. Both her and her parents’ families came from Virginia and relocated to Detroit to take advantage of the money to be earned there.Many relatives moved to Florida and, in the summer, her family would come to Lake County. She finished her school year in Paisley, Florida where her aunt, Georgia Mae Reedy, was the teacher in a two-room schoolhouse with eight grades. She graduated from high school in Detroit and attended Wayne State University, taking night courses so she could help her mother financially by working full time at Briggs Manufacturing Company, a large automobile company. In 1954 Michael Edmons, was born to loving parents. He grew up in Florida, graduated from FSU and now lives in Hilton Head, SC with his beloved wife, Cherlyn. They have two daughters, Morgan and Chelsea. Morgan and her husband, Jay, have three sons, Palmer and Brooks and Jack. She has one sibling, James Monroe Reedy who lives in Michigan along with his wife Patricia, their four children and their families. Shirley was active in the insurance industry she was the first female President/Owner of a title company in Florida; twice President of the central Florida Title Association and was elected a life time member of that organization. She was a former member of the Mortgage Bankers Association of central Florida and the Orlando area Board of realtors. She appeared in the first addition of Who’s Who of Florida professional women.Shirley was a Deacon in her church, First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, and was very active in her neighborhood, establishing the first association and acting as President, Vice President and Treasurer at various times. She loved to knit and embroider, and made dollhouses and furniture for her two granddaughters.Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2017 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with inurnment to follow at Southland Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum.
