
CHAPIN – Sidney E. “S.E.” Derrick, 87, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2014. Mr. Derrick was born June 1, 1927 in Chapin, SC. He was a son of the late Claude and Katie Wessinger Derrick. Mr. Derrick retired from Goodyear after a successful 35 years of service. He was a dedicated company man and prided himself on his service. After retiring from Goodyear, Mr. Derrick started his second career, opening Derrick’s Used Cars in Chapin. Mr. Derrick sold cars and lawnmowers and parts for more than 20 years to members of the community. He had many repeat customers, and friends frequently stopped at his shop to visit. Mr. Derrick had a strong work ethic. He loved working on cars, tending to his yard, gospel music, and his playing piano. He was very proud of his family.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Lucille Meetze Derrick who he loved unconditionally; daughters, Donna Proveaux Hicks (Ron) of Chapin, Glenda Derrick Booth (George) of Chapin; a granddaughter, Michelle Proveaux Clayton (Jason) of Chapin and a great grandson, John Derrick of Chapin. He is further survived by a step granddaughter, Danielle Hicks Thomas (Andy) of Orangeburg; a step grandson, Jason Carlton Booth of Saluda, and two step great grandsons, Brandon Andrew and Daniel Dwayne Thomas; a sister, Elberta Derrick Dominick (JN) of Little Mountain. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Claude Alvin Derrick, and two sisters, Katie Derrick Cotney, and Reatha Derrick Eleazer.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Bethel Lutheran Church followed by burial in the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will accept family and friends in the Fellowship Hall at 2:00 p.m.
