Teresa Martin Gates

Teresa Martin Gates, 53, of Lexington, SC passed away peacefully on Monday, August 4, 2025. She was born on May 16, 1972 in Columbia to Reita B. Martin and Carlton J. Martin. She was a proud member of the Airport High School graduating class of 1990.

Teresa had a deep love for baking, especially her famous pound cakes. She had a passion for arts and crafts, homemaking, and making other sweet treats. She found joy in cruising or anywhere near water as she loved tanning in the sunshine. She loved writing, coloring, and caring for animals. She was a master in sarcastic humor and witty timing to others and even a glorious pain in the neck.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Hugh Gates; her two beloved children, Hubie and Abigail Gates; brother, Bryan Martin (Lynn); uncle, Don Martin; cousins, Donald Martin and Courtney Martin; mother-in-law, Jonna Gates; brother-in-law, Bryan Gates (Patricia); eight nieces and nephews, Hannah Harmon, Danielle Jeffcoat, Gabryelle and Izabelle Martin, Ava and Bronson Shahbahrami, Brantley and Madilyn Gates; and one great niece, Scarlett Harmon.

She was predeceased to heaven by her mother, Reita B. Martin; her father, Carlton J. Martin; and father-in-law, Marion H. Gates, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 15, 2025 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072, with visitation to follow.

Flowers are welcome, and those who wish may also send potted plants, so her memory may live on in something growing and full of life.
