It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Thomas Starling Mattie, II on June 10, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on October 22, 1948 to Mildred Mattie Robbins and Thomas Starling Mattie of Savannah, Georgia.
He is survived by his lovely wife, Peggy, of 54 years; their daughters, Julia Schofield (Todd), Lea Ann Mitchell (Lee) and Amanda Cooper (Brad); grandchildren, Elizabeth and Tommy Schofield, Chandler Jones, Dakota Mitchell; mother, Mildred Mattie Robbins and sister, Gail Hargroves. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas Starling Mattie.
He was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, attended and graduated from Herschel V. Jenkins High School in 1966. He attended Savannah Vocational School where he received his degree in Television Electronics. When he graduated, he went to work for RCA Television in Savannah and then transferred to Columbia, SC with his family. He worked with TV repair for 24 years. Then he went to work for ETV maintaining taping center in high schools and moved up to repairing Satellites for ETV. He worked for them for 23 years. Thomas enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
Funeral arrangements have been made for 1:00 pm on June 16, 2023, at Eason Memorial Baptist Church in Eastover, SC. Visitation will be immediately following the burial in the sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be given to the South Carolina Oncology Center, Columbia, SC for research or Eason Memorial Baptist Church.
