Thomas Albert Tyson passed on December 5, 2023; although most knew him as “Mr. Tommy.” He was born on January 11, 1936 in Wadesboro, North Carolina where he grew up with his sister, Happy, and two brothers, Charles & Jerry. Mr. Tyson was predeceased by his wife, Betty Jean and they were married for 59 wonderful years. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Carla, who was a special girl. Mr. & Mrs. Tyson were devoted to the care of Carla and it was obvious to those who knew them how much they loved her.
Mr. Tyson is survived by his son, Joel A. Tyson of Lexington, SC, and his wife, Lisa. He also leaves behind his granddaughter, Leigh Provost, her husband, Grant, and his great grandchildren, Charlotte, Matthew & Joanna. This was one proud “Paw Paw.”
Mr. Tyson is remembered for his work with LA Barrier & Son Trucking. He & Mrs. Tyson moved to Lexington with the family business, and he was so proud to watch this grow. If anyone knew Mr. Tommy, they saw his dedication to his work and pride in each day. He knew every aspect of the trucking business from being a mechanic to shop manager but was happiest when he was driving a truck. He was the kind of man who appreciated a hard day of work and never asked anyone to do something he wasn’t willing to do himself.
Mr. Tyson was a member of Sinclair Masonic Lodge. He was also a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church. He served on church council, the property committee, and worked with the Lutheran Men. Mr. Tyson was always ready to help where needed and shared many memories with his church family.
