

GASTON – Funeral services for V. Allen Hicks, Sr., 71, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Red Bank Baptist Church with a private burial to follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Jeff Wright. The honorary pallbearers are members of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.
Mr. Hicks was born September 29, 1945 in Lexington, SC and passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017 surrounded by family. He was a son of the late Willie M. “Bill” Hicks and Mary Isolene Roland Elders. Mr. Hicks retired from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department after 20 dedicated years of service. He served as supervisor over the trustees and director of the Lexington County Litter Control Service. He was a proud Vietnam veteran, serving in the Marine Corps from 1964-1969. He was a member of SC Law Officers Association, Lexington County Veterans Group and The American Legion Post #156 Sandy Run. He loved to fish, hunt, and spend quality time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his devoted loving wife of 48 years, Carolyn Hicks of Gaston; daughter, Crissy Hicks of Gaston; son, Allen Hicks, Jr. and wife, Jill, of West Columbia, and daughter, Lynn Hicks of Petaluma, CA; seven grandchildren; brother, Willie M. “Billy” Hicks, Jr. (Teresa) of Pelion; sister, Mary Kyzer (Wesley) of Lexington; step-brothers, Arthur Waites (Judy) of Lexington and William Waites of Graniteville, sister-in-laws, Daisy Hicks (Terry) and Wanda Weaver (Mike), both of Lexington; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, James F. Hicks; step-father, George Elders; step-mother, Mildred Hicks; step-sister, Jeanette Caughman and step-brother, Paul Waites.
