WEST COLUMBIA – Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation in honor of Vernon Jerry Carroll, 66, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel Rooms ABC. The family will receive guests at the family home following the visitation.
Mr. Carroll was born November 15, 1949 in Columbia, SC and passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 4, 2016. He was the eldest son of the late Vernon Pearson Carroll and Effie Blume Carroll. For 33 years, Jerry worked as an Extruder Operator at Shakespeare. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. As an animal lover, he always had a faithful dog by his side. Jerry had a talent for fixing just about anything; he also enjoyed refinishing old furniture, creating yard ornaments, and boiling peanuts while listening to music on the back porch. Most of all, Jerry was a devoted husband, loving father and doting grandfather, who was happiest playing with and caring for his grandchildren.
Jerry will be missed by his wife of 48 years, Margaret R. Carroll; son, Terry Carroll; daughter, Jill Carroll; daughter-in-law, Alicia Carroll; grandchildren, Zachary, Zane, Noah, Luke and Meg; sisters, Pearl Lee, Judy Brooks, Joan Brummond and Darlene Carroll; brothers, Tim and Billy Carroll; many nieces and nephews; his faithful beagle, Kasey; and many friends and neighbors. Jerry was predeceased by his sister, Sharon Brooks. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the South Carolina Wildlife Federation.
