
GILBERT – Will McCain went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 19, 2013 after a courageous battle with melanoma. Will was born on January 27, 1953 in Mobile, Alabama. He grew up in Orangeburg, South Carolina and graduated from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1975. He served on the Orangeburg City Council from 1981 to 1986 and served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1986 to 1992. He served under Governor Carroll Campbell and was Chief of Staff to Governor David Beasley. He was a partner in the consulting firm of Kelley, McCain & Smith Owens, LLC. His brilliant mind and gentle spirit made him a true leader in the state and community.
Will is survived by his wife, Jeanelle Medlin McCain of Gilbert; sister, Mary “Mimi” McCain and her husband Hugh Auchincloss; brother, Charles McCain; uncle, Chuck McCain; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerry and Jean Medlin; a niece and nephew and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Simonton McCain and Lurline Livingston McCain.
A celebration of Will’s life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1324 Marion Street, Columbia, on Tuesday, October 22, at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service in Jackson Hall at the church. A private burial will precede the service.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Keith Flaherty at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Mohamed El Geneidy at SC Oncology Associates and the wonderful caregivers, at Tri-County Home Health and Tri-County Hospice for their enduring efforts to treat and care for Will.

Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
