Ann Campbell

Ann Grogan Campbell, 83, of Liberty, Missouri, passed away on June 25, 2025. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Church Archer Pasley Funeral Home, 119 East Franklin Street, Liberty, MO 64068. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. Interment will occur on Monday, July 14, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rockmart, Georgia.

Ann was born in Rockmart, GA on October 9, 1941, to George W. and Catheryne Mundy (Grogan) Franklin. George and Catheryne divorced when Ann was young, and she and her mother went to live with her grandmother, Agnes, who helped raise her. Ann’s mother then met J.D. Grogan, whom she married. J.D. would go on to formally adopt Ann and she lovingly called him “Daddy” all her life till he passed. Ann then later in life reconnected with her father, George, and they fostered a strong loving friendship that led to him re-adopting her.

Ann grew up in Rockmart and graduated from Rockmart High School, then attended Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mathematics. She continued her schooling soon after, earning herself a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Ann used her knowledge to become a middle school teacher, and shaped untold numbers of minds through her work at Eastgate and Northgate Middle Schools in the North Kansas City School District. Ann pioneered teaching computer programming in the 1970’s! She secured several grants for computer hardware and software to be purchased. While she taught, she was also a member of the National Education Association Teacher’s Union and once took her boys to walk a picket line during a teachers strike.

Ann loved Bridge and made many lifelong friends while playing. In addition, she also had a passion for tennis and was quite good. She played competitively in High School and once won the Women’s Doubles State AAA Championship. In college she was a member of Pi Mu Epsilon, the U.S. honorary mathematics society, as well as the treasurer of Delta Delta Delta (A.K.A. Tri-Delta) sorority. Ann was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a women’s service organization that promotes historic preservation, education, and patriotism across the United States, and she also acted as a delegate to the 1976 Republican National Convention when it was held in Kansas City, MO.

Ann was a huge Auburn fan achieving “Lifetime Auburn Alumni” status and was proud to be part of the Kansas City Auburn Club, the Official Auburn University Alumni Club in the Kansas City Metro area. If Auburn was competing, she was watching and chanting “War Eagle!” Auburn was her deepest sports passion, but she also felt strong connections to the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals teams as well having attended AFC Championships and World Series games on multiple occasions.

More than absolutely anything else, though, Ann loved her family. She married her childhood sweetheart and the love of her life, C. Wayne Campbell, on December 27, 1962. Together they had two children, Scott and Greg. Her children went on to have babies of their own, and she absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren like only a grandmother could. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the lives she touched and shaped so carefully.

Ann is preceded in death by her mother, Catheryne; her birth father, George; her adoptive father, J.D.; and her grandmother who played a special part in helping to raise her, Agnes Russell Mundy.

Ann is survived by her husband, Wayne; her sister, Cris Shanks; her sons, Scott (Melanie) Campbell and Greg (Renee) Campbell; her grandchildren, Aaron (Martha), Carman, Matt, and Brad; four great-grandchildren; and countless numbers of friends, family, colleagues, fellow alumni, and past students.
