Gloria Jean Murphy

Gloria Jean Murphy, 71, of Excelsior Springs, passed away January 9, 2023. A visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00pm, Monday, January 16th, with memorial services to follow at 7:00pm, all at Church Archer Pasley Funeral Home, 119 E. Franklin St., Liberty, MO 64068.

Gloria was born February 21, 1951 in Leavenworth, KS to Gerald and Alice Whinery, the second of eleven children. She moved around with her family often growing up, as her father served in the military. Gloria graduated from Job Corp in Excelsior Springs. She married the love of her life, Stephen Douglas Murphy on May 17, 1969. They raised two children, Angela and Steven II, here in Liberty.

Gloria was a mom first and foremost, but also owned her own cake decorating business, worked in hair salons, at Whitaker Cable, and retired from Wal-Mart after eighteen years. She was an avid bowler, having bowled in several leagues. Gloria also loved horses and riding, spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Steven; and three brothers-in-law.

Gloria is survived by her daughter, Angela Murphy Fry (Jonathan Hees) and her children, Austin Phillips, Kota Murphy, and Keagan Murphy Fry; her son, Steven Douglas Murphy, II; her brothers and sisters, Karen (Tom), Jolenea (Ken), Linda (Garry), Lori, Mary (Terry), Debbie (Stacy), Wesley, Terry, Gerald, Jr., Tammy; and brother-in-law Brian Murphy (Janice); and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
