James "Jim" F. Carmichael

James “Jim” F. Carmichael was born in Jefferson City, Missouri on August 24, 1949 to James W. and Frances E. (Cassell) Carmichael. He grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating from Ritenour High School. Following high school graduation, Jim attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri and graduated with a Bachelor’s in English. He also attended University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri and received a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Jim served as a police officer for the Pleasant Valley Police Department, taught Criminal Justice classes at Missouri Western in St. Joseph, Missouri, worked as a Parole Officer for the state of Missouri and lastly, retired as a teacher from Kansas City Missouri Public School District in 2007. On June 5, 1976, Jim married the love of his life, Carolyn Cawiezell. From Carolyn and Jim’s union, they had one son, John Carmichael. Jim served as Scout Master of John’s Boy Scout Troop 138 in the 1990’s. He was a board member for Mid America Rehabilitation Amputee Group in Overland Park, Kansas as well as volunteered his time at Hillcrest Thrift Store to assist families in need and assisted as Carolyn’s partner in the Brass Armadillo Antique Business. In his free time, Jim enjoyed participating in Story Telling for the children at a local Blue Springs, Missouri bookstore and spending time outdoors fishing, hiking and camping. Jim passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Frances E. Carmichael as well as a brother-in-law, Brian Welles. He leaves behind to cherish his legacy his wife, Carolyn E. Carmichael of Blue Springs, Missouri; son, John M. Carmichael and wife, Alissa of Olathe, Kansas; two sisters, Anne Miller and husband, Max of Columbia, Missouri and Jane Welles of Kansas City, Missouri; two nieces; one nephew; one great-niece and four great-nephews. A memorial visitation will be held at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home, 119 East Franklin Street, Liberty, Missouri 64068 on Saturday, February
