Jephrie Lee Hammond, age 66, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024. A visitation for Jephrie will be held Friday, March 8, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Bethel Church, 1025 Nashua Road, Liberty, MO 64068, followed by a funeral service at noon.
Jephrie Lee Hammond was born on February 2, 1958 in Kansas City, MO to Norval and Fannie Hammond. He accepted Christ at a young age and was an active member at St. Luke's A.M.E. Church in Liberty until relocating to California after graduating high school.
He enjoyed singing with and directing the choir, praise dancing, teaching bible study, working in the kitchen and helping wherever he was needed in the church.
Jephrie received his education in Liberty Public Schools and went on to study Business in college. He worked for Riverside County in California and in Early Childhood Education and Hotel Management once he returned to Missouri.
Jephrie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, and treated strangers like long-time friends. He enjoyed cooking meals to deliver to the elderly and having bible study with them when they were not able to make it to church. He also ministered to the homeless throughout the Kansas City Metro area, providing them with meals, hats, gloves, socks, blankets, personal hygiene items and encouraging words.
Jephrie was known by many as one who knew how to tell a colorful story, and he had a nickname for everyone in the family. He never hesitated to share one of his many Fannie-isms with anyone who would lend an ear.
Jephrie was preceded in death by his parents, Norval Sr. and Fannie, two brothers, Norval Jr. and Marvin, and sister, Beatrice.
He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Omar Munyan; siblings, John Hammond (Linda) of Little Rock, AR, Pat Phillips (James) of Holland, MI, Lional Hammond (Cyndie) of Liberty, MO, Nathaniel Hammond (Lillie) of Lee's Summit, MO, Charles Hammond (Linda) of Grandview, MO, Delores Hammond of Kansas City, MO, Norma Hammond of Pleasant Valley, Mo, Arnold Hammond of Liberty, MO, and Doris Hammond of Kansas City, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
