Elijah Rain Schenkel

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 7103 Sandy Creek Church Road, Staley, NC; burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Friday, June 16, 2023 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Loflin Funeral Home of Liberty, 212 West Swannanoa Avenue, Liberty, NC.

Elijah was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, "Paw", Terry Smith and paternal grandfather, Al Schenkel.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory mother, Tabitha Rose Smith and step-father, Jake Smith; father, Donald Burdell Schenkel; maternal grandmother, "Grammie", Libby Shoffner Smith; paternal grandmother, Vickie Allen; Grandpa, Jimmie; half-sister, Alexandria Schenkel; aunt, Tabitha "Tabbie" Smith Judson and her husband, Billy; aunt, April Wilson; uncle, Brad Smith and his wife, Marie; uncle, Stefan Schoenwald and his wife, Tanja; uncle, Matt Scouten; cousins, Kayla, Courtney, Marcus, Austin, Maddax, Memphis, Liam, Jax, Layla, Brayden, Alex and Jacob.

Elijah was a caring and fun-loving guy who always had a joke to tell and a contagious smile that would light up any room. Always with his heart on his sleeve, Elijah never held back his true emotions and love for his family and friends. He never left a room without giving a huge hug and an “I love you”.
