He was the son of the late Paul and Marie Smith Bruchon.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Teresa Marie Coffey Bruchon; daughter, Violette Dawn Bruchon; sons, Jody Lee Bruchon, Michel Paul Bruchon, Vance Steven Bruchon and Xavier Marc Bruchon; grandchildren, Ella Marie Desmarais, Jacob Michel Bruchon, Elizabeth Ruth Bruchon, Abigail Louise Bruchon and Hannah Josephine Bruchon; sisters, Barbara Booker and Michelle Grossman; brothers, Paul Ernest Bruchon, Jr., Peter Bruchon and Marc Bruchon.
Mike was a first generation American, whose father immigrated to this country from France. Mike was the youngest of Paul and Marie‘s six strong-willed children.
Mike graduated from Ashebrook High School in Gastonia, NC, where he remained good friends with many of his classmates. Mike attended Greater Piedmont Teen Challenge in Greensboro, NC. He met Teresa and they married in 1988. They moved to Liberty, claiming that it would be a "great place to raise a family." Mike, never taking out a mortgage, worked tireless evenings and weekends for many years, building a home for the family he loved.
Mike was always a hardworking man. By trade, he was a tool & die maker and machinist. Over the years he worked for numerous machine companies; Newman Machine, Julian Machine, Wix Filters, Sherrill Industries, Chase Logeman, and most recently Engineered Plastic Components in Siler City. Over the years, Mike became a “Jack of all trades.” He operated and repaired heavy equipment. He remodeled rental property. Mike was a car enthusiast and enjoyed working on his classic muscle cars. He loved to “wheel and deal.” He was a vast resource of knowledge on a variety of subjects. He enjoyed movies, music and random trivia. He was a member of Liberty Masonic Lodge #714 where he served twice as an officer.
Mike was a proud American. He loved God, family, and country. He loved Liberty; the town but more importantly the concept. Although set in his opinions, he respected others as long as they did not infringe on the liberty of he or his family. Mike always had a straightforward, no-nonsense personality and would quote John Wayne’s saying “I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.”
Yet, he never met a stranger. He was generous, good, and a kindhearted person. He would go out of his way to help someone in need. For 20 years, it was Mike’s annual tradition to have his family serve free hot dogs to the community at the Liberty Christmas parade. In honor of that liberty, he valued so dearly, Mike was also instrumental in establishing the annual fireworks display at the Liberty July Festival.
He taught his kids valuable life lessons; to treat all people with respect; the importance of hard work and the difference between right and wrong. He reminded them that he had made mistakes and did not want them to make the same ones. In addition to raising his own family, Mike was a “second Dad” to many. He would often try to help, or give a word of advice to those who lacked a father figure of their own.
Mike was a loving husband of 35 years to his wife Teresa, who he cherished and adored. He loved his children dearly and would “move mountains” for them. He was very proud of the adults they each had become. “Grandpa Mike” thoroughly enjoyed the precious time he had with his grandchildren.
Mike continued to work hard every day. He loved playing with his grandkids and spending time with Teresa, his raven-haired beauty.
