

David was the third child of Esther and Don Stearns. Loving husband of Margaret Stearns for 64 years. Loving father to David (deceased), Erin (Michael) Amico and Michael (Olga) Stearns and loving grandfather to Summer, Joseph, Dante, B, Isabel and Alexandra.
David was born in Detroit Michigan where he rebuilt his first automobile engine at age fourteen. He graduated from Aero Mechanics High School in 1949. David went on to college which was interrupted by his service in the United States Army during the Korean War where he reached the rank of Corporal. Upon returning home from the war as a decorated combat veteran, he completed his studies at General Motors Institute earning a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering in 1958. While he ultimately settled on a career in Mechanical Engineering, he had previously worked as a carpenter and as an aircraft mechanic. He spent most of his professional career with International Business Machinery (IBM) from which he retired in 1988. As a community minded person and resident of Lighthouse Point for over 58 years, he joined the Lighthouse Point Community Observer Patrol and served with them for over 20 years. Education being of utmost importance to him and his wife Margret, they sent all three of their children through undergraduate college and graduate school. He was an automobile enthusiast and other than spending time with his family he enjoyed nothing more than working in his home garage on his latest project.
An internment, with military honors, will take place on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at 9:30 AM at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 FL-7, Wellington, FL 33449.
The family will receive family and friends, at their home, on Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM.
