Louis J. Tomeo of Pompano Beach, Florida and New Hyde Park, New York, known as Louie or Big Lou to his friends and family, passed away on January 31st, 2021 at the age of 99, just 2 months shy of his 100th birthday.
Louie was the beloved husband of his wife of 49 years, Carol, who passed 3 years earlier. He is survived by his 5 children, Frank Tomeo, Patricia Evans, Mary Tietjen, Diane Tomeo-Hill and Christopher Tomeo, his 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
Louie lived an amazing life, as a boy growing up in New York during the Great Depression, fighting in World War II as an army medic, driving a NYC sanitation truck and seeing the world with his wife Carol, and all this with a smile on his face and love in his heart. To know Louie is to love and respect him. Anyone you ask will tell you he was one of the most generous and kind men they've ever known, including the numerous stray cats and birds he fed daily. He was all about making people around him feel comfortable and happy. He was an avid card player and if you've ever played with Louie you probably had the experience of him telling you the cards you were holding and how you should've played them, (of course this was after he had already won your money). He was still winning at cards and enjoying his amazing life right up until the end. He was a strong 99 year old and loved to enjoy a beer with his friends and chase around his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but not mourned. Please, no regrets, but only celebration for him and his awesome life.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday February 5, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. at Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services 4650 N. Federal Highway, Lighthouse Point, FL 33064. Where a Christian Wake Service will follow at 4:30 p.m.
