

Dorothy L. Fields, 75, of Lima, died at 6:59 a.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2014, in her residence. She was born June 11, 1939, in Lima to Harvey Dewey and Helen Mary (Milligan) O’Day who preceded her in death. Her foster parents, Arthur and Nancy Jones who are deceased, raised her.
Her husband, Joseph L. Fields, whom she married on Feb. 7, 1959, survives.
Mrs. Fields was a teacher’s aide for Lima City Schools. She was a representative for Avon, a childcare provider and a home care provider for the elderly. She was a former member of Second Baptist Church and a current member of Fourth Street Baptist Church.
She is the mother of two sons: Joseph L. Fields, II, who died Oct. 22, 1981, and Marc (Julie) Fields of Lima; a granddaughter, Misti L. (Curtis) Nance of Lima; great grandchildren: Matthew Mikesell who is deceased, Landon Fields and Bradon Nance. Two Goddaughters, Trish “Twig” Julien of Lima and Paula (O’Neil) Gwinn of Houston, TX also survive her. Her foster brother-in-law , Jimmy Worthington survives in Van Wert. Her foster siblings, Joann (John) Upshaw, Jeananne Worthington and Arthur Jones, and her father- and mother-in-law, Eldridge and Fannie Fields, preceded her in death. She also leaves four nephews behind: John Upshaw, Kim Upshaw, Jan Upshaw, Gary Upshaw and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, July 14, 2014, in Second Baptist Church, with Rev. Dennis Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday in SIFERD-ORIANS FUNERAL HOME, from 2-4, and 6-8 p.m.
