

Gladys (Smith) Atkins Mason, 90, of Cridersville, formerly of Vaughnsville, passed at 10:50 p.m., Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Shawnee Manor. She was born May 26, 1922, in Pineville, KY, to Elijah and Nellie (Hoskins) Smith who preceded her in death. She married Carl P. Atkins on Nov. 29, 1939 and he preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 1969. She then married Robert L. Mason on July 1, 1974 and he preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 1977.
Mrs. Mason had been employed at D.W.G. Cigar Factory and retired from Superior Metals. She was one of the early members of Lima Missionary Baptist Church and a wonderful homemaker, loving mother and grandmother to many generations.
Surviving are 4 children: Carl (Imogene) Atkins of Cridersville, Bernard Atkins of Lima, Darlene (Larry) Huffman of New Bremen and Beverly Mason of Lima; seventeen grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; stepchildren: Kathleen Mallazzo, Lauster Adkins, Charles Atkins; siblings: Rosie Jones, Ena Knuckles, Lorraine Martin, Sewell Smith, Thomas Smith, and James Smith; and a son-in-law, Wayne Mason.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m., Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Lima Missionary Baptist Church, with Revs. Terry Brock and Denny Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Thursday, from 5-8 p.m., at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, and on Friday, one hour prior to services at the church.
