

Helen Marie Laibe, 94, of Lima, died peacefully Monday morning, Aug. 31, 2015, in Jacksonville, FL. A small family gathering was held Friday, Sept. 4, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, Jacksonville, before returning her to Lima. She was born Jan. 7, 1921, to Charles and Verla (Shrider) Armentrout who preceded her in death. She is married to Wayne E. Laibe of St. Augustine, FL, who survives.
She and her husband were owners of Northwestern Travel Service. She traveled extensively with her husband, her family and friends. She was a member of Market Street Presbyterian Church. She was a 51-year charter member of P.E.O. and a life member of the Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Last but not least, she and her sister June were the founding members of the Lunch Bunch which met almost daily. There was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with her family and friends. She traveled near and far to watch her grandson and great-grandsons play football and baseball. She is greatly loved by her family.
She is survived by: her children, Pamela (Lawrence) McDonald, Jacksonville, FL, Barbara (James) Young, Lima, and Janet (Harvey) Place of Kaunakakai, HI; daughter-in-law, Janet (Charles) Rossfeld, Lima, and her sister, Charlotte “Short” (Tom) Roberts of Perrysburg; ten grandchildren: Andy (Rosanne) Laibe, Kristi (Scott) Ziehler, Lori (Ric) Prince, Karen Cummings, Meghan (Scott) King, Ian McDonald, Kaleialoha (Mike) Moss, Joshua (Lori) Place, Daniel (Jaymi) Place and Amy Place; eighteen great-grandchildren with one on the way and six great-great-grandchildren with one on the way, and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Laibe, and sisters, Evelyn Armentrout, June Roberts and her husband Richard “Dick” Roberts, Shirlee Smith and her husband Kenyon Smith, and two nephews, Brent Smith and Jerry Roberts.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, with Rev. Eric McGlade officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
