She was born in San Francisco on June 10, 1939 to Giacomo (Jack) Verducci, a Sicilian immigrant, and Giroloma (Geraldine, but went by
Mamie) Davi, a CA native whose parents came from Sicily. The youngest of four children, she was raised and educated in San Francisco, graduating from Balboa High School in 1957. She then went to work at Metropolitan Life. Her childhood was marked by heartbreak, though, from her father's death when she was only eight and her mother's death when Anna was barely sixteen.
In 1960, after a very brief courtship, she married Antonio (Tony) Petruzzella. Three children came soon after. Anna and Tony raised their family on the San Francisco Peninsula, then moved to San Rafael in 1976.
While their children were growing up, Anna also worked for many years as the bookkeeper for Tony's Auto Repair, which was her husband's auto shop.
She also was employed by Hunt's Donuts in San Rafael, a job which brought her great satisfaction as she aimed to put a smile on her customers'
faces--and also brought lots of donuts home to her family. After their first child graduated college, Anna and Tony moved to Bel Marin Keys, and when Tony retired in 2001 they moved to Lincoln. In their later years, Anna and Tony enjoyed traveling, visiting such locales as Mexico, Italy, Switzerland, Alaska, and numerous places all over the USA.
While in Lincoln, she suffered several serious, some life-threatening, health setbacks but managed to recover from every one of them, thus earning the nickname "Wonder Woman," which stuck from then on.
No matter where they lived, Anna's home was always filled with friends, family, laughter and good times. Many of those good times were provided by the red-and-white 1964 Midget that Tony had painstakingly restored and given to her for her 36th birthday. It became known as "The Midget" or "The Toy Car" because of the large wind-up key that Tony had installed on the trunk. It would rotate as the car drove along, much to the delight of all who saw it! She loved to entertain and made each person feel special. Even as her health began to decline in the last several years, she was still putting others first.
She is survived by her three children, Nicki (Donald) Kerns of Boulder Creek, Dan Petruzzella of San Rafael and Geraldine Petruzzella of Roseville, her two grandchildren Cece and Joey Kerns, dozens of nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Her husband Tony passed away in 2010.
Visitation will take place at Lincoln Funeral Home on June 11th 2015 from 5PM to 8PM. Her funeral will be held on Friday, June 12th at 10am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church,in Lincoln. Internment will be at the Italian Cemetery in Colma. Donations in Anna's memory may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association. The family wishes to especially thank the staff at Villa Del Rey for their loving care, and to Vitas Hospice for their invaluable help.
