

Gerald (Jerry) Earl Risse passed away at the age of 77 on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at his home in Lincoln, CA after a one year battle with cancer. Jerry was born in his family home on August 7, 1938 in Rio Linda, CA to Edward and Martha Risse. Jerry was the 11th born of 13 children. Jerry graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1956 where he played tackle on the football team. He went on to American River College where he received an AA degree and played football as well. He continued his education at the University of California at Berkeley where he graduated in 1961 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Jerry continued his love of football by playing for the Sacramento Lancers through the mid 1960s. After college, Jerry went to work for Risse and Sons Plumbing. Risse and Sons eventually became Risse Mechanical where Jerry was president until his retirement in 2008. In 1962, Jerry met the love of his life, Barbara Grady. Jerry and Barbara were married in 1963 and remained married until Jerry's passing. Jerry and Barbara were blessed with six children: Dave (Kelly); Rob (Tina); Patrick Steven (died 1967); Patrick Gerald; Mark (Michelle) and Julie (Brian Pool) and eight grandchildren: Matt, Ethan, Will, Joey, Michael, Isabella, Grady and Bowen. Jerry lived a full and active life. He was very involved with the Catholic Church, including volunteering as a Eucharistic minister, reading at Sunday Mass and participating in leadership roles in RCIA and Evenings for the Engaged. Jerry was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and held many office positions in the St. Rose Parents Guild, including president. He loved cooking, watching SF Giants games, playing golf, shooting pool, traveling, talking sports and politics, and working on home projects. Most of all, Jerry loved spending time with his family and friends. Viewing/visitation: Thursday, March 3, 4-7 p.m., with a rosary at 6 p.m., at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 280 Oak Tree Lane, Lincoln, CA. Funeral Mass: Friday, March 4, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 280 Oak Tree Lane, Lincoln, CA, with interment following at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 7101 Verner Ave, Sacramento, CA. At the conclusion of services, there will be a reception at Veteran's Memorial Hall, 541 5th St. Lincoln, CA. Donations may be made to Catholic Charities. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to Sutter Care Hospice for the wonderful care Jerry received in his final days. In particular we would like to thank hospice aide Jennifer and hospice nurse Nancy.
