It is with great sadness we announce the death of our precious son, Ruben Ponce Torres. Ruben passed away at home on May 25, 2022, after spending a month in the hospital with pneumonia and seizures. Ruben was born on February 12, 1992, in San Jose, California. Ruben was born with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, which to some would be a hindrance, but for Ruben, this and all the other conditions associated with it never slowed down his amazing smile and even more amazing great sense of humor. He loved all people that he came in contact with his family, his school, his adult program and all the medical staff he came into contact with. He always had the most sincere, loving and amazing smile for anyone.
Ruben enjoyed going on daily walks with his mom and dad, play time and shower time with his brother Richie, playing with all the fun stuff with his sister Rachel, that she constantly brought home for him and facetime with his older sister Nicole and nephew Obi in Canada.
Ruben’s major achievements include graduating from Rio Linda High School and then from Sacramento County Office of Education. He also attended the UCP Adult Education program in North Highlands. During his time at these programs he captured the hearts of all the staff he encountered with his sense of humor and big smiles for all.
Ruben had the most amazing sense of humor, he loved laughing at other’s “accidents”. He watched his Scooby Doo and Shrek movies, over and over of course, the scream laughing we heard was music to our ears. He was most content in front of his TV watching his movies, WWE and even Puppy Dog Pals and Bluey. His laughter when watching any of these is something that we will always treasure. He also enjoyed our puppies, who constantly jumped on his bed just to give him kisses.
Ruben overcame so many obstacles from so many medical conditions but always had a ready smile for all during these times. He taught our family so much about having loving and caring hearts, which made him the light in everyone’s life.
Ruben will be greatly missed beyond comprehension, but he truly made everyone he came in contact with a better person inside. He truly was a gift from God and taught us so much about life, love and compassion.
Ruben is survived by his mom, Devon Nevarez, his dad, Daniel Nevarez, siblings Nicole, Rachel, Richie and Danny Jr and cousin Antonio, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, Grandpa David Nevarez. Ruben is preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank Tarantino, Joyce Graber, Rosario Ponce, and Ernestina Nevarez.
We will be hosting a celebration of life for Ruben Saturday, June 25, 2022 at the Lincoln Women’s club at 499 E Street, Lincoln, CA from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. This will be a potluck, we will provide the carnitas, just bring any side dishes of your choice.
