Bill was one of a kind and lived his life serving others. He was a devoted family man: husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He would give someone in need a job, a meal or a place to stay for a short time. He would also dish out tough love when needed.
At the age of 15, Bill left his family home to pursue an independent life. During his travels, he became intertwined with different types of people as he worked in the carnival learning various job skills. At the age of 18, Bill was drafted to the Army. Bill rode the bus to Oakland, CA and spent all day being evaluated. Bill always used to say he was in the Army for “one day” because the recruiters did not notice he had a deformed arm until the end of the day. They did ask if he could type before sending him back home. He then went on the work for the County of Sacramento.
At the age of 19, Bill married his first wife, Cynthia Lee Justice, and they had four children together. They were married until 1981.
In 1982, Bill married his current wife, Connie S. Justice, in a small church. Together they raised their blended family of six children and remained married for the next 40 years.
For over 50 years, Bill was a true entrepreneur. He pursued his Contractors License and owned and operated many small businesses: trees services, landscape design and installation, fences, decks, tractor work, christmas tree lots, etc. Bill was an artist when it came to Landscape design. He took pride in his work as he owned and operated Special Effects Landscaping, employing many of his relatives, friends and people in need. Bill also had a love for the Christmas season. He owned and operated Special Effects Christmas Trees specializing in Douglas Fir, Noble Fir, Silver Tip and Commercial Trees. If you knew Bill, you would either find him on a landscape contracting job during the warmer months or on the christmas tree lot selling and/or flocking christmas trees during the holiday season.
In 2004 Bill had aspirations of becoming a realtor. He had a knack for sales and enjoyed learning about the real estate industry. He completed two modules of real estate courses.
During Bill’s later years, he enjoyed traveling with his wife to various Hawaiian destinations and camping or visiting other states. He adored spending time with his adult children, nine grandchildren, many relatives and friends and friends who became family. Bill also enjoyed telling many stories about his life and early adventures in the carnival. All you would have to do to learn about Bill’s life was pull up a chair and listen.
