
Barbara Jean Cederdahl Powell passed away on May 29, 2014 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Barbara was born in Ceresco, Nebraska to Elmer and Dorothy Cederdahl. She was the fourth of five children: Gwen, Clarice, Phil and Jim. She was the widow of John L. Powell, who died in combat in World War II. For over thirty years, Barbara was the receptionist for the medical practice of Drs. Purvis, Stover, Maxwell and McMullen. She was part of a group of medical staff members who founded the Lincoln chapter of the Nebraska Society of Medical Assistants and served the organization in officer and board capacities. Barbara was an outgoing and spirited woman who never met a stranger and often engaged them in conversations that always began with “I’m from Nebraska”. She was a true Nebraska fan and never missed wearing red on football game days and cheering the team on whenever she could see the game on television. Barbara loved to sing. It was usually The Husker Fight Song. She was an avid reader and kept a journal of every book she read. Her passion was crossword puzzles. She ordered them by the boxful and spent hours a day doing them. She also loved playing bingo. Barbara is survived by her son, Roger T. Powell of St Johns, Florida, her daughter Dr. Dorothy J. Anderson and husband Bruce D. Palmer of Wake Forest, North Carolina; her grandchildren Jameson Powell of Jackson, Wyoming and Michael K. Anderson and is wife Mikio of Morrisville, North Carolina, Janelle Cramer and her husband John of Brighton Michigan, Brandt Palmer and his wife Sonia of St. Cloud, Florida, Brook Palmer and is wife Faith of Wake Forest, North Carolina and eight great grandchildren; her sister-in-laws Carolyn Cederdahl and Ida Cederdahl; her nieces Darlyn Hansen, Janet Grabenstein , Donna Long, Linda Hornsby and Jody Roberts; and nephews Larry, Brad, Brett and Brian Cederdahl and their families. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 3PM on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home at 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska. Friends, family, former colleagues and neighbors are invited to join the family in this tribute.
