Bonny was born on November 6, 1933, in Holbrook, NE, to Machir “Mack” and Ellen Young. She married James “Jim” Rodgers on June 26, 1951, in Hastings, NE. They had three children: Paige Rodgers, 1955, Barbara Brown, 1958, and Mac Rodgers, 1959.
The family moved to Lincoln in 1967. Bonny worked at the downtown Russell Stover Chocolate Factory, followed by a long career at the Brunswick Corporate Defense Division factory in north Lincoln.
Bonny was a devoted Grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with family, including a tradition of Sunday dinners that grew to 18 people as her great-grandchildren were born. She loved playing Yahtzee with her children and grandchildren. Her passion was searching for treasures at garage sales and antique shops. These were followed by an annual garage sale, staffed by her kids and grandchildren, that ensured there was open space in her house for future finds. After retirement, she volunteered at the People’s City Mission and worked part-time at the Burlington Antique Mall, which might have been volunteer-like work after she netted her purchases from her pay.
She is survived by her children, Paige Rodgers, Barbara Brown, and Mac and Pam (Cassell) Rodgers, grandchildren, Lawerence and daughter-in-law Megan Jackson, LaToya “Toya” and son-in-law Franco Huerta, Michael and daughter-in-law Cindy Jackson, Courtney Rodgers and son-in-law Kyle Murphy, Megan and son-in-law Charles Carder, Baileigh Rodgers and son-in-law Adam Choate, and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim in 1986, parents Machir and Ellen Young, in-laws Floyd and Helen Rodgers, and six siblings.
Bonny did not want a viewing or funeral. She will be interred at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery next to her husband. She asked that memorials be directed to St. Croix Hospice, 1001 S 70th St, Suite 113, Lincoln, NE 68510.
