Chris was born in Lincoln NE, where she lived her entire life. She has an older brother, Ken and a younger sister, Connie as well as a younger brother, John. She was a Class of 1970 Lincoln High graduate. She has 3 daughters, Angie, Michelle and Whitney. There are 8 grandchildren: Micheal, Kyle, Brianna, Kayla, Korey, Mason, Kairi and Jacob. She also has 2 great-grandchildren: Aiden and Wade.
She loved ducks....collecting figurines, stuffed animals, artwork......Chris had it all if it was a duck. She loved making cards with her self-created duck that all family and close friends were honored to receive. She made dozens of greeting cards throughout her life with each one created especially for the recipient. She also scrapbooked and made books for her daughters, her husband, her best friend and her mom. She enjoyed interior decorating and even did it for a living for a few years. She loved coordinating paint colors with wallpaper and furniture patterns. She had a natural talent for it.
In addition to being an interior decorator, Chris was a manager at The Men's Wearhouse. Prior to that she was a manager at Landon's. Chris had a variety of jobs in her lifetime: a district Hallmark Company representative, an employee at Osco (now known as CVS), a counselor at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Park, a lifeguard and most importantly, a mom. She attended every event that she was able to that any of her daughters performed in. Whether it was choir, band or marching band, Chris did all she could to attend. She did her best to attend the events that her grandchildren were in as well. She took great pride in the achievements of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Chris was a member of Beta Sigma Phi (an international women's service organization) for over 40 years. She not only made lifelong friends through Beta Sigma Phi but gained sisters from this organization. Many of her and her daughters' best memories were at Beta Sigma Phi events. Her best friend, Linda Schooling, was introduced to her through Beta Sigma Phi. The two of them had a connection that continues to this day.
Chris loved doing jigsaw puzzles, playing cards (especially Rummy), going to BINGO and playing dice. She had a tradition where she took each of her daughters and her grandchildren to BINGO for their 18th birthday.
Chris loved horses and took her girls riding on a regular basis. One of the times riding turned out to be quite eventful: Michelle got bucked off of the horse and broke her arm. That's an outing we won't ever forget.
Chris loved to travel, even if it was just a day trip to Nebraska City, Omaha, York or Grand Island. The music was cranked up on the car radio and away she went. Music was heavily prevalent in her life. She loved listening to it, dancing to it and playing it. She played the piano, accordion, guitar and harmonica. All 3 of her daughters were very involved in music too. They all joined the marching band in high school and to this day, music is significant in their lives.
Chris loved to dance.....whether it was at home being silly with her girls or at events that had dancing, you could count on her to be on the dance floor. Unfortunately, her back injury in 2000 took away her ability to dance and this crushed her. Dancing was such a joyful activity for Chris and not being able to dance any more broke her heart, as well as those around her that knew how important dancing was to her.
Chris loved to garden and complete landscaping projects with Al. They had a beautiful yard with loads of flowers and fantastic landscaping decorations. Each Summer they had a bountiful harvest that they shared with Chris's daughters. The girls even helped with gardening when they still lived at home. It was fun to pull produce right from your own backyard and be able to eat it immediately.
Chris had a strong faith in the Lord and that faith made her acceptance of her diagnosis and life expectancy of only months easier to accept. She was not afraid to die as she knew Jesus was waiting for her. She looked forward to seeing Al, her mom and her brother when she went to heaven. Before she passed, she said she could see the three of them waiting for her. This is a beautiful memory for all of us to hold on to.
Chris is survived by her daughters Angie (Mike) St. Cin, Michelle (Jim) McCullough and Whitney Bohaty. Her grandchildren: Kyle, Kayla and Korey Berlowitz , Jacob St. Cin, Micheal (Alexus) McCullough, Brianna and Mason McCullough, Kairi Bohaty and her great-grandchildren, Aiden and Wade McCullough. Her brother, Ken (Barb) Dean, her sister, Connie Dean.
She is preceded in death by her husband Al Boyd, her mother and step-father Ruth (Richard) Keith, her father, Louie Dean and her brother, John Dean.
