Dr. Darrell Dean Grell, 94, Lincoln, passed away on May 5, 2018. Born December 7, 1923 in Beatrice, NE to Ruth and William H. Grell. Darrell was a WWII Navy Veteran, began his teaching career in Chapman, NE and retired, a school administrator in 1987, from Lincoln Public Schools after 34 years. He graduated from Tecumseh High School, Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska with a Doctorate in School Administration. Darrell was a member of St Paul United Methodist Church, Lincoln, for over 70 years. He loved all sports, played and coached many sports and worked the sidelines for the Husker Football home games for 40 years.
He was preceded by his wife Ruby (George) Grell, of 61 years; Parents: William and Ruth Grell, brothers: Stanley Grell, Sr., AK., Richard Grell, Lincoln. He is survived by son: Bradley (Cheryl), Capistrano Beach, CA.; Daughter: Marci (Grell) Greenwood, Plattsburgh, NY.; Sister: Karen (Grell) Evans, VA.; brothers: Millard Grell, Lincoln, Alan Grell, Lincoln, Four grandchildren: Seth and Nicholas Grell, both of CA., Hannah Greenwood, Plattsburgh, NY, Emma Greenwood, Africa,; Four great grandchildren: Carter, Cole, Caroline and Henry, all of CA., numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, Dementia Society of America; or St. Paul United Methodist Church, Lincoln. Celebration of Eternal Life will be Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St Paul United Methodist Church, Lincoln. Darrell will be buried with full Military Honors at Lincoln Memorial Park.
