We, some of my family ,were just talking about Dave last week. My husband, John Hilt went to school with him. He used to deliver our mail once a week, & he was a good friend to Merle Hartley, who worked at NBC Bank years ago, as I did too, in the 60's. My brother passed away Oct. 9th of 2019 & my brother-in-law on Oct. 23, 2017.

It was just a few weeks ago Dave Rogers and I were recalling our days in Vietnam with David - the strength of his personality had that effect. When I appointed him as our platoon sergeant everything changed. Everyone respected him and he had a natural ease in the jungle. In a couple of ambushes he took complete charge and heroically, and alone, led the assault.

I knew Dave in the late 60's, I also worked at NBC bank. He delivered our mail occasionally. My husband, John, went to Lincoln High with him & lived across the street from his family on 2lst & K, they did some hunting together. He was a great guy. I know you are from Pawnee & I am from Steinauer. I just lost my brother(first sibling of 12 of us on Oct. 9). Sorry we didn't make it to the service, but you & your family are in our thoughts & prayers. John & Nancy Hilt

I was so sorry to hear about David.  I wish I was there so I could attend his service, however we are in CA.  What a wonderful family the two of you created.  My heart breaks for you.

Remembering Dave made me think back to the 1970's when we were young bankers at NBC.  We had a bank flag football team at a time when Lincoln had an adult flag football league.  Dave was the general manager, coach and quarterback.  Dave was a good quarterback and the team was good. I believe we won the league one if not two years before we all moved on to other things.
Thinking of Dave's excitement and energy during those times makes me smile and appreciate what a great guy he was.

I knew Dave as "3-5". He was my platoon sergeant in Vietnam and I was his platoon leader.

He was a fearless and loyal soldier. In one ambush - while the enemy tried to infiltrate our position - he scrambled back and forth along the line encouraging the platoon to stand fast. At one point he knelt with an M 60 machine gun and held the opposing force at bay all by himself.

Despite all this bravery he remained low key, unassuming - more concerned about others who were unsettled  by combat.

I am profoundly grateful that this extraordinary man came my way in the springtime of our lives.

Guy,  Our sincere sympathies to you and your entire family on the loss of your brother.  He appears to have been a great man!

I served with Dave in Viet Nam in 1969.  He was our platoon sergeant.    Dave was quick witted, accurate in his actions and constantly concerned about his men in the platoon.  We could always count on him to make sure we were safe on our patrols and missions while still carrying out the goals of the military.  I am one of at least 20 persons in the platoon that totally respected him as a platoon leader, fellow soldier and friend.  These types are hard to find.  May he rest in peace...he certainly earned it.  My condolences to his wife and to the family.  He will always be remembered.

I was a letter carrier and got the privilege to work with Dave. He was a very kind man and one to lift the spirits of those around him.He was very proud of his family.Sending prayers for comfort to his family

I worked with Dave as a letter carrier at Cheney Ridge.  Dave always had a smile on his face, a song on his heart, and quick with a joke!  He dearly loved his family and especially his grandchildren!  He spoke of them often.  Dave was a fine man, friend, and co-worker and will be missed by so many!
