Dee was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska while growing up and attended Prescott School and Calvary Lutheran School through 9th grade, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1960, where she was on the Cheerleading Squad. She studied nursing at Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing for a year before leaving school to marry the love of her life Dallas on September 22, 1961. She returned to nursing school while raising three daughters and graduated as a registered nurse in 1974. During her nursing career, Dee owned a business giving insurance physicals, worked in the recovery room at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, was a Rheumatology Patient Education Nurse at Bryan Memorial Hospital and finished her career working for the Nebraska Department of Health with the WIC program providing education to expectant and new mothers. While working full time and raising a family, she completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education from Doane College.
At the end of 1997 Dee retired along with Dallas and they began traveling the US in a motor coach, spending winters in Texas or Arizona and visiting many other states. She made many friendships along the way. After a few years of nomadic life, she helped to design their retirement house on Beaver Lake in Rogers, Arkansas where they hosted their friends, children and grandchildren for almost 20 years. In her lifetime, Dee visited every state in the US, traveled from Europe to the Arctic Circle, traversed the Panama Canal, was the first person in the US to see the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain in Maine and the last to see the sunset in Hawaii.
In 2020 Dee and Dallas moved back to Lincoln and became residents of The Landing. Although she was diagnosed with cancer only weeks after moving in, she was active in the Landing Community, serving on the Library Committee, sewing for charity projects and she always had a card or a helping hand ready for her neighbors.
Dee was a gracious hostess, talented seamstress and creative baker. Her faith was very important to her and she loved reading her daily devotions as well as cozy mysteries, and doing needlecraft. She had a kind word for everyone and a soft spot for all animals, especially her furry “grandbabies”.
Dee was predeceased by her parents and sister-in-law Janis Minford. She is survived by her husband Dallas, daughters Kimberly (Kevin) Kass, Kristin Drda and Karolyn (Brian) Husa as well as grandchildren Tyler Kass, Aubrey Kass, Dominic Liguori and Luka Liguori and brother Donald Minford as well as nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to the Capital Humane Society or The Immanuel Community Foundation for the Landing staff scholarships. https://www.capitalhumanesociety.org/ways-to-give/donate.html
