Delores Tharnish

Delores Tharnish passed away December 9th, 2025. Born March 10, 1933 to Louie and Blanche (Stingley) Hilkemeier, the youngest of 10 children. Delores grew up in Creighton Nebraska and graduated high school in 1951. In 1955, she married John Tharnish and moved to Lincoln where they lived their remaining life.

She was a long time member of St. John’s Catholic Church. Delores worked at Jack and Jill nursery school (daycare) before working at State Farm for over 20 years in the life division and made many friends there. Being from large families, John and Delores attended many family gatherings and events and loved to dance. In Lincoln they were long time patrons of numerous restaurants, pranking the servers with antics that made them friends. Many weekends were spent playing cards with friends and family. She loved being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren immensely.

Delores is survived by her daughter Natalie (Pat) Schlaebitz and son Scott (Peggy) Tharnish, four grandchildren Renae (Wade) Meyer, Kara (Adam) Wacker, Jodi (Jason) McLaughlin and Matt (Megan) Schlaebitz, 15 great grandchildren, and sister in laws Adana Hilkemeier, Anna Schumacher, Rita Wagner, and Patricia Neumann, and brother in law Bob Tharnish.

Delores was proceded in death by her parents, husband John, and nine siblings, Ruth, Eloise, Bob, Alyce, Helen, Delbert, Dale, Betty, and beloved twin brother Donnie.

A visitation for Delores will be held Sunday, December 14, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a rosary following at 7 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68512. A mass of christian burial will occur Monday, December 15, 2025 at 10:30 AM at St John's Catholic Church, 7601 Vine Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68505.
