

Edith Perkins Lustig passed away on August 5, 2016 in Lincoln, NE at the age of 86. Edith was intensely involved with her community in St. Louis, Missouri. She was a volunteer at St. Anthony’s Medical Center and remained active for 40 years. She taught first aid and CPR for the American Red Cross and because of her many years of dedicated service received the Clara Barton Award in 1987. Edith was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, holding office for four years. Edith was born September 20, 1929 in Ware, MA to Edith Madeleine Pettengill and Bertram Webster Perkins and grew-up in Warren, MA. Her higher education took her to Stephens College in Columbia, MO where she majored in photography. After graduation, she joined their teaching staff but also freelanced as a photographer. She treasured the portrait she took of former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt in 1949. Edith and Edgar (Ned) Lloyd Lustig were married April 19, 1952 and lived in New York. After a few years they moved to St. Louis where they lived for nearly 60 years. They moved to Lincoln, NE last year to be near their daughter and her family. Edith, an avid figure skater, served as president of the Gateway St. Louis Figure Skating Club for several years. She loved gardening and playing their 1927 Robert Morton theatre pipe organ. She was an avid animal and nature lover and enjoyed the wildlife that came up from the woods behind their home. Edith is survived by her two daughters Susan Lustig (and son-in-law Bob Dahl), and Carol Wirth (and her husband Todd Wirth), her grandchildren Colin Wirth (and wife Nell), Megan Wirth Cooper (and husband Tyler), and great grandson, Warren Cooper. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bertram Webster Perkins, Jr. and her husband of 63 years, Edgar Lustig. Services will be held on Aug. 15 at 3 pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln, NE, with internment following - lincolnfhcem.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Edith's memory can be made to the American Red Cross.
