Forrest Richard DeVries

Forrest was born on August 21, 1956 in Beatrice, NE. He is the son of Don and Alice DeVries. He grew up in Cortland, NE and graduated from Norris High School. He attended UNL for one year. He worked at BNSF in Lincoln for 42 years. He served on the Cortland Volunteer Department, Youth Softball and Basketball Coach. He was a past Chair and Member of the Cortland Town Board, a long-time member of Norris Football Chain Gang, Served on the Cortland United Church Board of Trustees, he was a mentor for CUC confirmands. He was a member and mentor of John's Plumbing Men's Fast pitch Team, and volunteer for anyone who every needed a helping hand. He is survived by his wife, Robin S. (Cooper) DeVries of 14 years on this July 4th. Forrest had 5 daughters: Heather DeVries of Lincoln with her children, Kailyn and Colin all of Lincoln, Crystal DeVries of Colorado, Jayme Cerny with husband, Steve and their children, Hadlee and Cooper all of Cortland, Kindra Gates with husband, Jay and their children, Jaxson and Landri all of Lincoln and Amber Gamez and her children, GiAnna, Milan and Cannon all of Firth. Roger Olsen with wife, Michelle and their children, Hazen, Savannah, Tucker, Wyatt and Winston all of Firth and mother and father in-law, Don and Delores Cooper of Firth. Preceded in death by parents, Don and Alice DeVries. Forrest was one of eight kids. Brothers, Duane and wife, Ann, Fred and wife, Betty, Larry, and Branch and wife, Marilynn; sisters, Stephanie and husband, Don, Kristin and Althea. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. VISITATION Friday, July 21, 2017 from 6-8pm and CELEBRATION OF LIFE Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 10am all services at the Cortland Community Center, W 5th Street Cortland, NE.
