

Gary Proskovec of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on July 7, 1949, in David City, Nebraska, to Ellis and Mary Proskovec, Gary grew up with his sister, Marilyn on the family farm in Bruno, Nebraska. He attended Aquinas High School in David City. After graduating, he moved to Lincoln to attend the University of Nebraska, where he studied engineering.
While at the university, Gary met Linda Holling, and they married on June 20, 1970. Gary spent his entire career in Lincoln, working as a civil engineer and senior executive with HWS Engineering and Benesch. He was deeply involved in his community and church, volunteering many hours at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, local charities and serving as a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Gary was a devoted husband and father who was actively involved in his children’s lives. He took pride in welcoming their friends into his home. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with friends and grandchildren, traveling, playing racquetball, watching Husker sports and caring for his and others’ cars.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Linda; their three children, Aaron (Tami) Proskovec, Adam (Kayla) Proskovec, and Amy (Mandy) Proskovec; and his six grandchildren, Lauren, Kate, Aliyah, John, Scott, and Jacob. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn (Gary) Aerts; sister-in-law, Lanelle (Carl) Rogers, and brother-in-law, James Holling.
A visitation for Gary will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska, 68512, followed by a rosary at 7:00 PM. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 4500 Duxhall Drive, Lincoln, Nebraska, 68516. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 2300 S. 78th St., Omaha, Nebraska, 68124.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Catholic Charities of Omaha or a charity of your choice, in honor of Gary’s memory and his commitment to his community and faith.
