

Homer H. Schwaninger, 86, of rural Hallam entered the presence of the Lord on August 14, 2016. Born in Hallam on March 7, 1930, he lived and farmed in the area all his life. He graduated from Hallam High School in 1947. A veteran of the Korean War, he earned 5 medals in service to his country, most notably the Medal of Commendation. After returning from Korea, he married Belva Bohmont of rural Martell on February 26, 1955. They had 4 children: Nancy, Denise, Shirley, and Shawn. Active in his community, he served on the board of Star School Dist 53, Norris Board of Education (1972-80), and the Norris Foundation Board. He was president of Gage County Farm Bureau (1984-86) and served on Immanuel Cemetery Board. Faith was a core value in his life and he enjoyed serving as a deacon at Princeton Countryside Alliance Church. He is survived by his wife Belva; daughters Nancy Moormeier (Scott), Denise Larson (Erik), Shirley Teply (Don); son Shawn (Shereen); grandchildren, Jason & Brent Larson, Justin Schmidt (Danielle), Brad & Craig Teply, Jenna Graeve (Nick), Seth, Shane & Skyler Schwaninger; great-grandchildren, Cleo & Simon Schmidt; and several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Curtis Schwaninger (Joetta); brother-in-law Eldon Bohmont (Ruth); several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents Fred & Bena (Rademaker) Schwaninger; infant brother Waldon Schwaninger; infant grandson Nathan Schwaninger. Service in celebration of his life will be held at Princeton Countryside Alliance Church on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. (family graveside service preceding). Memorials to Princeton Countryside Alliance Church and Immanuel Cemetery.
