

Jacqueline R. Akert, 91, of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021. She was born January 12, 1930 in Morrill, Nebraska to Albert and Wanda (Thompson) Harrison.
She graduated Gering High School in 1948 and Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1952 with a degree in Education. Jackie met Benjamin Akert at Nebraska Wesleyan University and they married on August 10, 1952 in Gering, Nebraska. Ben and Jackie thoroughly enjoyed living in Lincoln, Nebraska where they raised their family and embraced the company of many friends.
She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority at Nebraska Wesleyan. In 1951 she was Winner of the Lincoln Symphony Auditions and sang with the Lincoln Symphony at the Stuart Theatre. Jackie felt this was one of her greatest accomplishments. From 1952-1956 she taught music and English at Elmwood and Elkhorn Public Schools. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir and served as the Director from 1973-1977. Jackie enjoyed music and through the years was a member of Delta Omicron Music Fraternity, Sweet Adelines Chorus, and Civic Chorus. Jackie was employed as a medical assistant at Lincoln Psychiatric Group from 1973 to her retirement in 1995.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ben, and son Bruce. She is survived by her son Leonard Akert and daughter-in-law Becky of Lincoln, NE, grandchildren Brian Akert and wife Liz of Papillion, NE, Brandon Akert and wife Kaylen of Lincoln, NE, Erik Akert and wife Melissa of Boise, ID, Kelda Fairleigh and husband Erik of Seattle, WA, and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial service is Friday, March 26, at 11:00 am at Christ United Methodist Church, 4530 A Street. The service will be live-streamed on the church’s Facebook page.
