

Janice Kay (Phillips) Schneider, 91, went to be with her Savior on Friday January 9, 2026, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Janice was born on December 31, 1934, in the middle of a South Dakota Blizzard to Clifford and Ellen Phillips. The couple lived in New Effington but the closest hospital was in Sisseton on a Reservation. The Roads Department plowed the road ahead of Clifford all the way. Try to get service like that today!
Janice graduated from Northeast High School in Lincoln, NE in 1952. She worked a variety of jobs from lifeguard to CNA and Heart Monitor Tech at Bryan East in Lincoln. She married Norman Ray Monroe in 1955. There were two daughters from this union, Pamela Kay, and RaeLeen Monroe. During her final job as a city bus driver, she met the joy of her life, Leonard W. Schneider. They eloped to Hastings, NE on March 9, 1982, and married. This union produced a family that grew from five children, Jan’s daughters and Len’s sons Terry (Dee) Schneider and Randy Schneider and his daughter Vicki Schneider Jones to have ten grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Janice and Len enjoyed traveling, camping, boating, fishing, and their two dogs Skippy and Candy. She was a long-time member of Second Baptist Church, Lincoln, NE.
She was preceded in death by husband Leonard, brother and sister-in-law Galen (Marion) Phillips, sister and brother-in-law Iran and Donna Ruhga, daughter RaeLeen Formanek; stepdaughter Vicki Jones; nieces Karen Ruhga Barrett, Lisa Phillips Laabs and nephews Gary, Alan and Lynn Ruhga.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 5-7 PM; followed by a funeral service on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 10 AM. All services will take place at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St., Lincoln, NE 68512. Memorials in her honor are designated to The American Diabetes Association.
