

John F. Higgins, 89, of Lincoln passed away October 1, 2014. He was born on December 25, 1924 in Chicago Heights, IL to John F. and Clara (Cropper) Higgins. Served as a Navy Radioman in WWII and the Korean Conflict. During his life he was a police officer, a railroader (CB&Q) and an employee of Woodmen Accident and Life Company, Lincoln, NE. John and Mary Ann (McDonald-Angus) Higgins were united in marriage on May 28th, 1976 in Columbus, NE. John was a long time member of American Legion Post #3, life-time member of VFW Post 131, and DAV Chapter 7. John and Mary Ann attended Oak Lake E-Free Church in Lincoln. John had many interests: sports, history, travel, genealogy, but his greatest interest was being a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel T. and Stephanie G. Higgins; son, James F. Higgins; daughter and son-in-law, Myra L. and Jarold Bartek; grandchildren, Joshua and Megan Higgins, Justin Mullen, Matthew and Brooke Mullen, Zachary and Sarie Whitson, Brooke and Joseph Reinhard, Max and Jennifer Whitson, and Shannon Whitson; and several great-grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his parents and one son, John Patrick Higgins. A Celebration of Life service with Pastor Dale Ribble officiating will be Monday, October 6, 2014 at 12:30 PM, Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street.
