

John Clark Porter, 88, passed away peacefully at home on October 5, 2017. He was born January 7, 1929, in Albion to John Alton Porter and Ruth Porter (nee Clark). He married Geraldine Ruth Ellison in 1950 and to this union were born four children. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering, and worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads from 1950-1972, when he established Porter Engineering.
John subsequently married Mary Helen Stingley in 1985. They made their home on a farm near Panama. John retired in 2004, and the couple moved to Lincoln in 2009. John was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and square dancing. He was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church and spent many hours delivering Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his wife Mary; his children, Eileen (Ray) Brown, Joyce Porter, John Porter, Todd (Wanda) Stingley, Rebecca Rezaei, and Kirk (Pam) Stingley. He leaves a niece, nephew, and daughter-in-law; he was devoted to his many grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Elizabeth Harper Saperstein and Margaret Eileen Fox; wife, Geraldine; son, Mark Allan Porter; and a granddaughter.
A celebration of John's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 21, at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 1015 Lancaster Lane in Lincoln. In addition, a visitation with family and friends will be held at 7p.m. on Friday, October 20 , also at St. Andrew's. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Tabitha Meals on Wheels or St. Andrew's Lutheran Church.
