John J. Rownd

John was born in Lincoln, Nebraska to John & Leola Rownd on August 6, 1944.

He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962.

John joined the Marine Corps.

After the Marine Corps, John began working at the Nebraska Department of Roads where he worked for his entire career.

In 1964, John went on a blind date with Sandra Prucha. On Valentine’s Day 1965, John asked Sandi to marry him. John & Sandi were married on August 20, 1965.

John's greatest joy in life were his grandchildren. He attended nearly every game, recital and play each of them had. Each of them visited him often & he looked very forward to those visits.

John loved traveling with Sandi as well as his children & grandchildren. They loved cruising, Vegas & attending Husker bowl games.

John was one of Husker sports' greatest fans. John was not just a Husker football fan but a fan of MANY Husker sports—basketball, baseball, softball, even bowling. He tried to watch every game he could, always wearing his Husker gear.

John was preceded in death by his parents John & Leola Rownd & his wife Sandra Rownd.

John is survived by his children, Kristin (husband Dan) Bunde; Geoff (wife Amy Schainost) Rownd; grandchildren Hailey (of Fort Worth, TX) Marcus & Jackson Bunde, Emily Stange (husband Collin), Alex & Grant Rownd; great grandson Henry Stange; his sister Mary Rownd, as well as many beloved nieces & nephews.

Celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday April 18 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska. Please dress casual, per John’s request.
