John Melvin Tivis 84 was born on November 24th, 1935 to Annetta Hurt in Kansas City Missouri. John moved to Lincoln Nebraska in 1957 and married Ola Dee Moore on April 19th, 1958 and to this union five children were born.
He was a dedicated employee of the US postal service for 35 years while working 20 plus years at the city county building all to support his family. He loved music especially jazz. He enjoyed playing the guitar & took private lessons for awhile. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and played by ear entertaining many even on the Startran bus when he rode it. He could imitate the sound of any instrument just by making a fist with his hand & blowing into his fist which was truly amazing. He enjoyed watching football and traveling with his family sometimes weekly to “Joe Tess” fish restaurant in Omaha NE always ordering the double rib fish dinner with extra pickles & hot sauce. He was a happy, funny guy who you loved once you met him. He had a bright yellow T-shirt that said “Neat Guy” and that he was. He also had a T-shirt that said *Got Problems join the club” which goes to show just how humble & Imperfect he truly was.
In 2001 his life took a very exciting turn when he dedicated his life and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s witnesses. He loved the Bible truths that he learned and having died faithful, his hope is to live forever on earth (Psalm 37:10,11,29,34) He will return to the earth in the resurrection along with those he lost in death. He will enjoy healthy everlasting life with all his loved ones under God’s kingdom rule, and we look forward to seeing him there with eager anticipation. He will be remembered for his loving heart and the infectious smile that he bestowed on every person that he met.
