Joyce Ann Skala, 75, unexpectedly passed away Saturday, November 27th, 2021, at her home in Lincoln, Nebraska. Born October 27th, 1946, in Crete, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Otto and Rose (Kouba) Skala. Joyce called Lincoln home and proudly graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1965.
She gave birth to her son Dustin Ballance in Lincoln, Nebraska on July 17th, 1985. Joyce was a dedicated mother, with a love that knew no limit. An amazing friend, her kindness, loyalty, and generosity enriched the lives of those that she was closest with.
Joyce enjoyed reading the newspaper, working in the yard, going for coffee with family and friends, and absolutely anything Elvis. She found joy in cooking, and her delicious meals will be missed more than she will ever know. Joyce loved spending time with her son, especially the time they shared watching Nebraska football games. She will forever fill her son’s heart with the passion she instilled in him for the Big Red.
She is survived by her son, Dustin Ballance; sisters, Shirley (Allen) Kobes, Bonnie Hartwig, Jeannette Collier, JoAnn (Thomas) Strouf, Beverly Mays; brothers, Virgil Skala, Dennis Kolarik, and many nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Richard Kolarik; brothers, Eugene Skala and Ronnie Skala.
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, December 10, 2021, at Lincoln Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St, Lincoln, with Pastor Kerry O’Bryant and Chaplin Julie Pulec officiating.
A luncheon at Residence Inn by Marriott Lincoln South, 5865 Boboli Ln, Lincoln, will follow the celebration of life.
Cremation, no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family. Those attending the celebration of life are welcome to wear casual attire.
