Larry attended Lincoln High School where he played football. He graduated from Choctawhatchee High School in Shalimar, Florida on June 5, 1964. He is also a graduate of the National Fire Academy-Executive Fire Officer Program in February, 2001.
Larry served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1967 to 1969. He served in Vietnam during that time. After returning from the military he became a Firefighter for the City of Lincoln, serving for 38 years, where he was promoted to Deputy Chief. He also joined the Nebraska National Guard after being encouraged by Nancy's uncle, Dick Keller to serve again. He served for 38 years and retired with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer III.
Larry was united in marriage to Nancy Keller on March 1, 1970 at St Luke United Methodist Church. They were married for 56 years. Larry loved being a father, grandfather, and now a great-grandfather. He enjoyed attending their sporting events, dance recitals, birthday parties, and sharing time with them.
Larry is survived by his wife, Nancy, son, Jeffery Edwards, daughters, Laura (Matt) Johnson, Emily (Tom) Griebel, grandchildren, Paige (John) Bouc and their son, Elijah, Sidnee and Jeffery Edwards II, Morgan, Kaidyn, Jaicee Johnson, Samuel, Madelyn Griebel, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steve and Linda Keller and many other relatives and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy McDaniel, Step-father Paul McDaniel, and parents-in-law, Melvin and JoAnne Keller.
The family wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude to the Hospice team at Bryan West Medical Center for their compassionate and loving care.
