Graveside services for Arlene (Leni) Skaar, 75, of Davey will be 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, 2025, at the Danish Cemetery near Davey on Highway 77. Pastor Kris Bohac of Bethlehem Lutheran Church will conduct the service.
Leni Skaar died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025, at Bryan-West Hospital in Lincoln, following a massive stroke.
Arlene (Leni) Skaar was born Nov. 14, 1949, to Art and Dorothy (Harkson) Skaar in
Lincoln. She attended Davey elementary school, then University High School in Lincoln until it closed. She then transferred to Lincoln East High. During high school she pursued her strong interest in building construction by taking a course in shop and designing and constructing a camper box for a pickup truck. Following her graduation in 1968, she attended University of Nebraska in Lincoln, with an interest in studying architecture.
While at UNL a friend introduced her to the thrill of sky-diving, prompting their move to Salt Lake City, Utah, known for its perfect sky-diving conditions. After a time, she moved to Nevada where she developed a successful career as a cocktail server at MGM in Reno, then The Mirage in Las Vegas.
It was during this time that Leni met and married Joe Bosarge, whose son Joseph lived with them through much of his growing-up years. Though Leni and Joe later divorced, Leni truly loved being Joseph’s “bonus mother” and, later, “bonus grandmother” to Joseph’s daughter, despite being unable to see them often as they live in Hong Kong.
Leni retired from her casino career in 2011 and thereafter devoted much of her time and effort to her involvement with the Las Vegas and Clark County planning commissions. She enjoyed this work immensely and became expert at helping commercial developers successfully navigate the complicated city and county regulations for new construction projects. In 2020 Leni sold her home in North Las Vegas and moved, with her two dogs, back to Davey to be closer to family. She enjoyed renewing her Davey “roots” and living near loved ones, including several dogs and cats.
Survivors include her sister Ruan (Skaar) Pohlman of Stanton, Nebraska; nephew Scott (Sherry) Pohlman and children Ryan and Kayla of Davey; great-nephew Elliott (Katherine) Pomplun and daughter Adeline Rose of Maryland; great-niece Tanya Unrine of Tennessee; cousin Ross (Susan) Barker and daughter Cristi of Montana; cousin Kalli Malley and children Justin and Tiffany and families of Nevada; stepson Joseph (Jen) Bosarge and daughter Jewel Lee of Hong Kong; and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law Burnell Pohlman; and niece Cindy Miller.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to your local animal shelter, which was another of Leni’s special interests.
