Linda was born on December 7, 1955 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Eugene and Lila Knipple, the third of seven siblings. After graduating from Lincoln High School, Linda went to work at Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company (LT&T). She met David Dean Mohatt of Lincoln, Nebraska and they were married in 1985.
After beginning her career at LT&T, Linda continued working for the phone company for more than 30 years. The name of the company changed a lot (from LT&T to Alliant to Alltel), but the work was a constant and the friendships Linda made there were lifelong. During these years, Linda and Dave raised their daughters in north Lincoln surrounded by family. Linda enjoyed family camping trips to Branched Oak and western Nebraska as well as a regular Scrabble game with her family and friends that ran for decades.
In her retirement, Linda explored the United States, with her friends and family. She enjoyed vacations in Las Vegas, Caribbean cruises, and various other locales. She also remained active by working part-time jobs, first at a liquor store where she worked alongside several of her siblings and then at a flower shop. She was not an overly sentimental person, but it was clear that she got a lot of pleasure out of delivering flowers and seeing the joy they brought to her customers. In 2019, Linda and Dave left Lincoln and moved to Dayton, Nevada where they enjoyed a new adventure in a milder climate. In retirement she loved reading mystery novels, watching The Big Bang Theory, and visiting her granddaughters.
Linda had a pragmatic, no-nonsense disposition. She was honest and straightforward with everyone she met. She was also compassionate and stalwart. You wanted Linda with you when times were tough, and she always was right there when you needed her. Without making a show of it, Linda forged connections between people. Her siblings and her friends, her mother and her daughters, all came together to talk and laugh and at the heart of it was Linda. She will be greatly missed.
Linda is survived by her husband David and her children Jessica Lynn Mohatt (Matthew Hibbing) and Kimberly Kay (Greg) Sukup, her grandchildren Matilda, Leslie, Penelope, and Grace, and her siblings, Eugene (Shelly) Knipple, Mike Knipple , Judy Pettit (Pete), Cheryl Laing (Thomas), Kathy Knipple, and John Knipple (Vicki Long). She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law Robyn Hunt.
A service and interment will be held on July 18, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home located at 6800 S 14th St, Lincoln, NE 68512. A reception will follow at Milkweed Event Space in Havelock.
