Loren "Gaile" Lowery, age 88 of Bellevue, NE went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 20, 2020. Loren was born November 12, 1932 to Ernest and Hazel Lowery in their farmhouse near Rockford, NE on a library table. He was the 5th son behind, Ernest “Cotton”, Kenneth “Pat”, Tom, and George. Gaile had one younger sister, Shirley “Beth”. Gaile’s favorite stories to tell were about being one of 6 kids and the teasing he received from his brothers, he often talked of being “talked into” grabbing the electric fence.
Gaile joined the Air Force with his best friend, Ray Bratt out of high school. After basic training, Gaile was a radio operator flying around the world until he was sent to Korea during the war. There he was deployed as a rescue boat crew member. When he spoke of serving his country, Gaile was excited to talk about his travels through Japan, France and Italy-and only a few of the happenings in Korea. After the war Gaile moved for a short time to Omaha where he worked for a camera store.
When he returned from the service, he was “cruising” with friends when he saw Arlene with her friends. One thing led to another and they had their first date. Six months later Gaile and Arlene were married in Beatrice, NE on November 25, 1956. Arlene was living in Beatrice and working at State Farm Insurance in Lincoln at the time. They packed up and moved to Lincoln where Arlene helped Gaile get a job with State Farm where he worked for 39 years mostly as an auto claims adjuster. While living in Lincoln, they had two children, Scott and Denise eight years apart. They resided on Cottonwood Drive where they raised their children, a few dogs and a hamster (there’s a story involving limericks and notes on toilets- Gaile’s sense of humor was always on display). On Cottonwood Drive they met great life-long friends and even traveled back to Beatrice monthly for their “card parties” with a group of friends from their early years. After his retirement, Gaile and Arlene retired to Forsyth, MO where they met a new group of friends and enjoyed being ‘locals’ and going to all the shows. Gaile’s outgoing personality (and lively sense of humor) led to many encounters with the stars of the shows. In the early years of his retirement, he had a pontoon boat that he and his son Scott would take out fishing for trout, usually catching more sun than fish! While they had many fun times in Branson and the surround day trips through the area, he was most content sitting on the balcony looking at the beautiful scenery with his family.
Through the years, Gaile enjoyed reading science fiction and murder mysteries swapping books with his daughter Denise. While many authors were favorites, nothing was more precious to Gaile than the bible he received from his Father in Law. Gaile read his bible daily and over the years he is said to have read it cover-to-cover over 5 times. He was a font of biblical knowledge and was an active member in his early years with the American Lutheran Church. Gaile was a loving and doting Grandfather of Trevor and Trent (Scott’s sons) and Lauren and Ryan (Denise’s children). Many summers Trevor and Trent spent time with Gaile and Arlene in Forsyth learning to swim and say the Lord’s Prayer and travel all over the Ozark’s together. His relationship with them was close and meant the world to him. All the Grandkids loved trying to sit in Papa’s chair- but mostly loved it when Papa tried to get them out! Gaile became a Great-Grandpa to Jenna, Jordyn and Bennet, Trent’s children. Family was number one to Gaile and it showed in every aspect of his life. The last five years Gaile and Arlene moved to Bellevue, NE to be near their daughter Denise and family. Living in Harmony Court they met new friends, spent time with family and old friends and took short trips over to the casino!
Gaile was most proud of being a husband to Arlene. They are soulmates and had a relationship that was timeless. His advice to his daughter on her wedding day rings true through his own marriage to Arlene: Never fight about money, Never go to bed angry and ALWAYS tell each other you love them.
Gaile is described by many as funny, witty, loving, kind, and generous but Dave’s son-in-law described him as ‘authentic’ which is exactly what he was in everything he said and everything he did.
Gaile is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Arlene Lowery; daughter, Denise (David) Boever; 4 grandchildren, Trevor Lowery, Trent Lowery, Lauren Boever, Ryan Boever; 3 great-grandchildren, Jenna, Jordyn and Bennet Lowery; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gaile is preceded in death by his son Scott Lowery; 4 brothers and 1 sister.
