She was born in Pawnee City, Ne, and raised on a farm where she enjoyed the simple things in life, like singing with her sister while they did their chores or riding a horse to school. And being one the prettiest girls around, she was once proudly crowned The Hog Queen in the annual Humboldt parade.
Fresh out of high school, she earned her teaching certificate at Peru State College and met the challenge of teaching in a one room school, K through 12. And then she married Charlie. They shared nearly 72 years together.
Mom was a sweet, generous, loving, nurturing, infinitely patient Mother who put up with us kids. She made a hot breakfast every morning, a sweet treat after school and a dessert after every supper.
She was always dressed to the nines, including jewelry and every hair in place. But most importantly, people knew Mom for her open armed generosity, many telling us they adopted her as their Grandmother.
Oh, did we mention Mom's penchant for chocolate? She always had a bowl of Baker's chocolates on her kitchen table and would tell her guests, 'I can't have one until you do.'
We could not have asked for a better Mom, we'll miss her dearly.
Predeceased by her husband Charlie and daughter Elaine.
Survived by sons John (Molly Andrews-Smith) and Todd (Maria) Kirchmann).
