

Marilyn was born on February 16, 1936 to Fred and Hazel (Johnson) Stein. She grew up in West Lincoln. She graduated from the University of Nebraska Teachers College High School in 1954, she the went on to work at the UNL West Stadium.
In 1956 Marilyn met her husband Raymond Lee Hughes on a blind date and it was love at first sight. In May of 1956 they married and soon after the added 3 beautiful children to their family.
Marilyn graduated with distinction from SCC in 1980 with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Administrative Secretarial. She then worked for Lincoln Liberty Life Co., and retired from the Lincoln Nebraska Veterans Hospital after working there for 17 years.
Marilyn's hobbies were oil painting, writing, cake decorating, music she especially loved playing her piano and family genealogy. She wrote a book in 1999 about her life entitled, "The Life of Me" , and prepared a genealogy report for her family to treasure for years to come. Marilyn's real passion was music and spoiling her grandchildren.
Marilyn was a fortunate woman who was strong, courageous, intelligent, calm and wise. As Marilyn says "She had a Great Life". She will never be forgotten by her family and friends.
She is survived by her son David Lee Hughes of Lincoln; daughter Kimmara Rae Hughes, of Lincoln; two grandsons: Raymond Lee Hughes (wife Misty); Randall Scott Hughes both of Florida; great grandchildren: Kolbe Hughes, Alex Hughes; Haley Hughes; Emily Hughes and Amber Woody all from Florida. Closest Cousin Leona Kocsis, from Lincoln.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband Raymond Lee Hughes, son Brian J. Hughes; parents Fred and Hazel(Johnson) Stein.
